China’s one dish wonder mega-chain Yang’s Braised Chicken Rice is opening two locations in Los Angeles this weekend. The new outlets in Rowland Heights and San Gabriel will serve only a single item: Jinan-style braised chicken, a 100-year-old family recipe from Shandong Province.

Founder Xiao Lu opened the first outlet in 2011 in Jinan, China using a beloved recipe passed down from his grandmother. The signature dish consists of chopped chicken thighs smothered in a braising liquid, which is produced and imported from China, and cooked in a claypot until tender. The dish is finished with mushrooms, ginger, and chiles and served in its cooking vessel with rice on the side. Spice levels can be customized to diners’ tastes.

Since opening its first location eight years ago, Yang’s Braised Chicken Rice has expanded to more than 6,000 locations worldwide. The restaurant currently operates four locations in Southern California including outlets in Tustin, Lake Forest, Aliso Viejo, and Santa Ana. The Rowland Heights and San Gabriel restaurants are open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily.
