Surprise, surprise: Boulder City upsets Moapa Valley, 15-12

The Boulder City High football team hadn’t beaten Moapa Valley in more than 10 years. So, when the Eagles fell behind by 10 points in the fourth quarter on Friday, they could have easily stopped playing.

That’s especially true considering their offense was struggling and hadn’t scored. And even more true when considering the game was in Overton, where Moapa Valley rarely is beaten.

But Boulder City wouldn’t be denied. It scored 13 unanswered points in the fourth quarter to close the game in a 15-12 upset victory.

Toby Schaper’s 63-yard interception return for a touchdown with five minutes remaining were the winning points. Earlier in the game, the Eagles also scored on a safety.

“The kids on defense did an outstanding job,” Boulder City coach Chris Morelli said. “They have kept us in the game all year.”

Dakota Christian started the Boulder City comeback with an 8-yard touchdown run, helping Boulder City grab the unlikely win.

“I have never beat them and I have been here since 2010,” Morelli said.
