Any team can win high school football’s Northeast League.

That’s the general opinion entering tonight’s division openers, as four schools — Canyon Springs, Desert Pines, Las Vegas and Legacy — each have confidence after impressive nonleague performances.

We should know more after tonight.

Canyon Springs, the reigning league champion, will host assumed favorite Desert Pines, which has won three of four games in blowout fashion and has a roster of noted college recruits.

Legacy plays visiting Las Vegas, which is undefeated and one of Southern Nevada’s highest scoring teams. Both have a dynamic quarterback: Legacy’s Evan Olaes has passed for 1,200 yards and seven touchdowns, and rushed for another nine scores, and Las Vegas’ Ja’shawn Scroggins has 16 touchdown passes in five games.

Other leagues also have notable games.

In the Northwest, league-leading Centennial hosts Faith Lutheran in a battle of top teams. In the Southeast League, undefeated Foothill plays host Coronado.

In the 3A, the game of the night will be contested in Overton as Boulder City comes to town to take on Moapa Valley.

We’ll keep everyone posted as scores become final. Send game information on Twitter using #sunstandout.
