Lichfield Foodbank boosted by donation from students at Lichfield school

Lichfield’s foodbank has been boosted by a donation from local students.

The pupils from Maple Hayes Dyslexia School collected the groceries – equivalent to 621 meals – after a group from Year 11 led a collection in conjunction with the harvest festival.

Headteacher Dr Daryl Brown said he was delighted with the efforts of the youngsters.

“Having seen the difference that Lichfield Foodbank makes to local people in need, we knew we wanted to support the charity again this year,” he said.

“We asked our Year 11 to drive this initiative forward and they did a fantastic job – they gave talks to our younger pupils about how foodbanks work and explained what the harvest festival is all about.”

Lichfield Foodbank relies on donations to provide emergency food and support to local people in crisis.

“As a smaller specialist school with just over 100 pupils, I’m very proud that we’ve been able to donate the equivalent of 621 meals, thanks to the generosity of our students and their families,” added Dr Brown.

“Collecting for worthy causes creates a great sense of community within the school and helps the pupils to understand the importance of giving back.”
