Pupils at a Lichfield school have raised £1,200 for a dog rescue charity.

The students from Maple Maple Hayes Dyslexia School organised a raffle to help support the Border Collie Trust, a charity that rescues and rehomes dogs across the UK.

Ben Wilkes from the trust received the cheque from pupil Ben Owen.

“Our dogs are rescued in a variety of circumstances,” Ben said. “Many people think that rescue dogs are dumped on the street after being mistreated, but that’s not often the case.

“People’s circumstances change – perhaps couples separate and neither can take a dog – there are bereavements, illnesses or even a child can become allergic to dogs.

“All of our money goes towards looking after and rehoming the dogs, to make sure they get the new homes they deserve.”

Headteacher Dr Daryl Brown said: “Our school has a long history of generous charity fundraising and this time is no different.

“We were helped by local businesses who donated prizes for a popular raffle.

“I’m very proud that we’ve all worked together to be able to help the Border Collie Trust in its valuable work.”
