The winter bowls season is approaching and a new outdoor league is looking forward to flourishing.

Taking place on the all-weather pitch at Lichfield Sports Club, eight teams are already signed up.

Organiser John Chapman said he decided to start a small league – and has already seen it grow.

“I contacted several local clubs and they came along to a couple of taster sessions,” he said. “Following on from that, four clubs expressed interest in joining a league and it ran for seven weeks before the outdoor summer season started this summer.

“Since then I have added another four clubs to the original four to give an eight team league which will use the whole pitch.

“They will play each other once this side of Christmas and again after Christmas, hopefully avoiding the worst of the weather.

“I have had interest from other clubs and I’m in the process of starting a further league on Tuesdays.”
