The decision to reopen tips in Lichfield and Burntwood has been welcomed by a local MP.
Staffordshire County Council has confirmed that household waste and recycling centre will open their gates again on Thursday (14th May).
The sites were initially shut due to coronavirus concerns.
Conservative MP Michael Fabricant said he hoped the decision would lead to a reduction in fly-tipping.
“The tips won’t be fully open – they won’t take paint or asbestos, for example – but this will take the strain off householders.
“I have also been concerned about the growth of illegal fly tipping in the area which is dangerous and has been putting additional burdens on local farmers who have to clear up the mess.”

The decision comes after Lichfield District Council reported a 30% rise on fly-tipping on private land during April.
As well restrictions on items which can be taken to the centres, the reopening will not allow vans or trailers until further notice.
Mr Fabricant added:
“There will be strict social distancing and other health-based rules in place and people using the recycling centres should stick to them.”

“Difficult circumstances”
Queues are likely when the tips do reopen, with sites in Birmingham seeing hundreds of cars queuing on local streets this week.
Cllr Mark Deaville, Staffordshire County Council cabinet member for commercial, said:
“We won’t be able to offer a full service and will have to restrict the number of vehicles allowed on a site at one time.
“Inevitably that means there may be queues and we ask people to remain patient and remember that site staff are doing their best in what remain difficult circumstances.”

Well done to all those involved in this decision.
I’m sure the people of Lichfield will respond to this excellent leadership in the correct fashion and not over indulge the refuse site and create a “gridlock”.
It is vans and trailers that are causing a lot of the fly tipping so let us keep them out of the tips. Does not make sense to me but then i am neither an MP or councilor so what do I know other than 78 years of knowledge
If MF was so concerned about fly tipping, perhaps he could tell his constituents what he did exactly to persuade Central and County government to open the tips. I fear he makes a comment to imply he has taken action but he had done nothing at all.
ML has expressed he opinion on the situation. He or she has simply raised a very valid and sensible observation. I want like to know how our MP and counsellors think that restrictions on vans and trailers will help ease incidents of illegal fly tipping? Also how will our farmers dispose of the rubbish dumped on their land if they can’t more it to the tips?
What interesting comments have been made. Every single one raise valid points. Its such a shame that those elected by us seem to lack any common sense and ignore the issues that are impacting on our countryside.
