LUSK – All ages welcome for arts and crafts at the Niobrara County Library.
Crafting Time is a theme-based, after-school program led by Library Director Debbie Sturman with funding from Friends of the Library. Volunteers and foundation members oversee the events. Previously, the classes have been divided into groups for grades K-2 led by Tina Kitras, the children’s librarian, and 3-6 led by program assistant Barb Orr. This month, for the first time, the program is offered for all-ages group.
Kitras said that children and adults can use this time to create memories and crafts.
The Niobrara County Library celebrated its 100-year anniversary this year and serves as an integral part of Lusk. Designed in 1919, the library was used for local meetings for a small charge but later became a place to meet for free. Today it is still so.
“Our library serves an important function in our rural community,” Kitras said. “In a small community, people are often looking for different types of activities that are a positive expression which can be shared between generations, as well as being indoors during our long winters. The holiday crafting program provides that opportunity.”
Arts and crafts activities are available in the lower level of the Library on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:45 until 4:45. Adult crafting is available based on interest.
