Lady Tigers drop close matches at Big Horn Invite

BIG HORN – The Niobrara County High School volleyball team traveled north to the Big Horn Invitational last weekend and Friday’s pool play had Rocky Mountain, Big Horn and Kaycee with the Lady Tigers.

In the first match the Lady Grizz won in two sets 25-22 and 25-17. Shortly after that, host team Big Horn beat the Lady Tigers 25-14 and 25-17 before Kaycee won a pair of slim 25-22 sets.

Saturday’s bracket play put Lusk against conference rival Glenrock first, and the Lady Herders won 25-12 and 25-14. In the final game of the tournament Lusk and Shoshoni battled for three sets before the Lady Blue escaped with the win (25-17, 24-26, 11-15).

NCHS TEAM STATS: Serving 177/203, 87 percent, 23 aces. 57 kills. 52 assists. 8 stuff blocks. 182/243 digs, 75 percent

NCHS PLAYER STATS: Serving – Lucy Ceaglske 25/26, 4 aces; Renae Marker 36/40, 5 aces; Courtney Rowley 26/29, 5 aces; Anna Richardson 35/40, 2 aces. Kills – Rowley 34, Richardson 10. Assists – Bryn Bruch 28; Ceaglske 14. Stuff blocks – Rowley 6. Digs – Rowley 43; Richardson 39; Marker 32; Allison Williams 23.

The JV team lost to Rocky Mountain 21-8 and 21-17, Big Horn 21-9 and 21-10. The Lady Tigers split with Kaycee 21-16 and 11-21. Lusk lost to Glenrock 21-14 and 21-12 before beating Shoshoni 21-15 and 21-18.

This week the Lady Tigers open conference play with a Friday trip to Glenrock. Having just played the Lady Herders last week, there should be no surprises. The JV begins at 2 p.m. with varsity to follow.
