The Beaver Dam High volleyball team picked up home victories over El Capitan, AZ and Sandy Valley to run its winning streak to seven.

The Lady D-Backs defeated El Capitan of Colorado City, AZ, 3-1, on Tuesday and then opened 1-A South League play on Friday by sweeping Sandy Valley, 3-0, at the BDHS gym.

The results leave the Lady D-Backs at 10-5 overall.

Buoyed by a strong serving game, Beaver Dam never trailed in sweeping Sandy Valley by scores of 25-14, 25-15 and 25-9.

Shyanne Pierce served three aces while Marissa Horner and Elizabeth Jensen had two each in the Lady D-Backs’ first set win.

Horner’s ace gave Beaver Dam a 17-9 lead, but Sandy Valley scored five straight points to pull within 17-14. Pierce halted the rally by serving eight consecutive points, including three aces, to give BDHS the win.

In the second set, Pierce had back-to-back kills to put the Lady D-Backs up 4-1. Christina Leach served four straight points with one ace and Horner followed with three consecutive points and an ace to increase the lead to 12-2.

After the Lady Sidewinders cut the deficit to 13-6, Nancy Lopez served four straight points, including an ace, to put the Lady D-Backs up 17-6. Horner served out the set with four consecutive points that also included an ace.

Jensen opened the third set with an ace as the Lady D-Backs grabbed an early 6-4 advantage. Pierce and April Snyder served three points apiece as Beaver Dam upped its lead to 14-8.

Leading 15-9, Jensen served out the set and match with 10 consecutive points that included three aces.

“The strength of our team is our serving,” BDHS head coach Charyn McDonnell said. “We’ve got some really strong servers and I thought we did a really good job of serving.”

In the victory over El Capitan, Jensen recorded 15 aces to go along with 10 kills and five digs. Pierce had 12 aces and eight kills while Lopez recorded nine digs.

The Lady D-Backs, who had never beaten El Capitan prior to this season, defeated the Lady Eagles three times this season.

“I’m really pleased with our improvement this year from last,” McDonnell said. “We’ve still got some weaknesses that we need to improve on. Overall, I’m really happy with how the girls are playing.”

Beaver Dam will play at Beatty Friday at 5 p.m. in its final road match of the season. The Lady D-Backs will play their final six matches at home beginning with Word of Life on Oct. 15 at 4 p.m.
