The Virgin Valley High School boy soccer team continued to impress in 3A soccer circles with a 0-0 tie at Moapa Valley and a 7-2 win over Sky Pointe. The week showed the Dawgs with a 4-2-1 record and third place in the tough 3A Sunrise League with 5 matches remaining in the regular season. The young Bulldogs continue to show improvement as the season goes on. The Bulldogs started the week with a 0-0 tie on Monday Oct. 7 against their archrival Pirates. The Bulldogs could not take advantage of open shots as the Pirates defense shut the goals down. “We need to work harder, pass the ball and look for the open man,” said assistant coach Jhonathon Pantelakis. “We need to learn from our mistakes to continue to improve”.
The Bulldog boy’s must have taken their coach’s remarks to heart after Monday’s game as they came out strong against Sky Pointe on Friday afternoon Oct.11 with a 7-2 shellacking of the Eagles. The Bulldogs started strong, controlling the ball allowing freshman Zach Trimming to hit the back of the net with the game’s first goal. Sky Point came back minutes later to tie the match 1-1. The Bulldogs would not be denied, coming back with 3 goals before the first half ended. David Baltazar, Davin Baltazar and Eric Solario struck goal to give the hometown Dawgs a 4-1 lead going into the break. The Bulldogs continued to control the ball in the second half putting extreme pressure on the Eagles defense. The Dawgs scored three more goals in the second half with Trimming, David Baltazar getting their second of the game with Leon Weigel adding his first. “Our boys have been playing amazing soccer,” said Coach Pantelakis. “They are playing as if they had played together for years”. The Bulldogs travel to Boulder City on Tuesday Oct. 15 and Sunrise Mountain on Thursday Oct. 17. The Eagles sit in fourth place with a 3-4 record and the Miners are upfront with a great 6-0 mark.
