Manchester United are weighing up a summer move for PSG defender Thomas Meunier as they seek to upgrade their right-back options for next season.

The 27-year-old Belgium international has been in and out of Thomas Tuchel’s PSG side this season and only has 14 months remaining on his contract at the Parc Des Princes.

According to the Independent, Meunier is likely to be more affordable and easier to sign than some of United’s other targets including Tottenham’s Kieran Trippier and Crystal Palace’s Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

Another right-back that United have been linked with is Chelsea starlet Reece James, who has excelled during a season-long loan with Championship side Wigan Athletic, although he is being primed as Cesar Azpilicueta’s understudy next season.

United have had issues at right-back all season and will see Antonio Valencia depart at the end of his contract in the summer following ten years of service.

Ashley Young, another veteran winger who has been converted into a right-back, has endured a difficult time of late with supporters questioning his recent performances, while 20-year-old Diogo Dalot is still raw at elite level despite showing signs of promise this term.

Meunier has won numerous trophies during his three-season stint with PSG including a second Ligue 1 title sealed this weekend, while he has also established himself as a fixture in the Belgium side, amassing 36 caps.

This season, Meunier has scored three goals and provided three assists in 20 Ligue 1 appearances for PSG.
