Manchester United were keen to bring in Milan Skriniar from Inter Milan as part of the deal taking Romelu Lukaku going the other way, but the Serie A club have rejected the offer.

United and Inter are currently haggling over a transfer fee for Lukaku, with personal terms reportedly agreed between the player and the Italian side.

However, United are expecting around £62m for the striker, which Inter are hesitant to pay, despite United forking out £75m for him in 2017.

With negotiations ongoing, the English club have tried to kill two birds with one stone and solve their problems at centre-back by suggesting Skriniar could be part of the deal, reports Corriere dello Sport.

The 24-year-old Solvakian has been a key part of the Inter defence since signing from Sampdoria for £17.5m in 2017, making 46 appearances for the Nerazzurri last season.

However, despite new Inter boss Antonio Conte being very keen to bring Lukaku to Milan, he is also dead set on keeping hold of Skriniar, who he sees as an integral figure in his new-look side.

The swap deal has been dismissed by Inter and the clubs will go back to haggling over a price for Lukaku.

Even without Skriniar becoming part of the transfer, Lukaku’s future looks set to be at the San Siro, with the Belgian all but confirming the move while praising Conte.

‘It’s good to see Conte joined Inter, for me he is the best manager in the world,’ he told Premium Sport. ‘I’ve already taken a decision about the future but I can’t reveal it because I have a contract with Manchester United and because I respect the club.’

‘I am a big fan of Serie A, who knows me is aware that I wanted to play in the Premier League and that I also want to play in Serie A.

‘Cristiano Ronaldo arrived in Italy last season, Sarri will go to Juve, Ancelotti is at Naples, the Serie A will be thrilling next season.

‘My agent will speak with Manchester United. I’ve already taken my decision. The club need to decide but my agent wants the best for me, I am sure it’ll be an agitated summer’.
