 Six buses carrying 134 people from Nagaland who were stranded in Manipur owing to the nationwide COVID-19 lockdown left Imphal for Kohima and Dimapur on Saturday morning.


A total of 134 passengers, all from Nagaland stranded at different places of Manipur were on board the buses, provided by four transporters’ associations in Manipur.


The buses were flagged of by Joint Director of Manipur Transport department, PK Sharma from Imphal’s North AOC this morning after functionaries of the four transporters bodies handed hand sanitizers, face masks, drinking water which would be used by the passengers during the journey.


All Manipur Inter-state Bus and Allied Transport Association (AMIBATA), All Manipur Petroleum Tanker Drivers’ Union (AMPTDU), HITOWO and MATWA arranged the buses after both Nagaland and Manipur governments gave signal for the transportation of the stranded people of Nagaland.


As stated by the functionaries of the transporters’ associations, fares of the passengers are to be borne by the government of Nagaland.


Dr Nyamnei Konyak who took main role in arranging the transportation of the stranded people said that he was assigned by Nagaland government to do so considering the grievances of the stranded people.


He lauded the officials of both Nagaland and Manipur Transport departments and transporters’ bodies for making success the transportation of the stranded people. 


He further thanked all concerned people who extended their cooperation in helping the people of Nagaland stranded in Manipur for a long time due to the COVID-19 lockdown.
