Dimapur | June 5

Coinciding with the World Environment Day on June 5 and initiated by the Nagaland Community Conservation Area Forum, Nagaland Empowerment of People through Energy Development (NEPED) Kohima, the Community Conservation Area, Ruzaphema donated a mini truck load of wild vegetables collected from its conserved area to the Dimapur district administration.

Around 3000 bundles of wild vegetables were donated and shifted to Food Bank, Dimapur.

Receiving the donation on behalf of the administration at Centre of Excellence for Renewable Energy Studies, Dimapur, ADC, Lovitoly lauded the initiative of NEPED and the CCA Ruzaphema for the donation. She said the donation came at a right time when a large number of returnees from Bengaluru were expected to arrive and that the vegetable would be given to the caterers for use in the quarantine centres. She encouraged the community to continue agricultural activities as the state cannot always depend on supply of essential commodities from outside. “More than other years, this year we need to work hard, go back to our resources and bring out the produces,” she added.

She also encouraged the community to continue conservation of forests and take care of the environment for long term benefit of the society.

Chairman CCA Ruzaphema, Adi Sesa said the villagers were mobilized to collect the vegetables from the wild and donated to the district administration as a sign of its support and contribution towards the efforts of the government during this time of crisis.

Similarly, the CCAs in all the districts donated wild vegetables to all the district administrations coinciding with World Environment Day with this year’s theme, ‘Time for Nature.’
