Dimapur District Core Committee on COVID-19 meeting held

Dimapur, May 30 (MExN): Dimapur District Core Committee on COVID-19 held a meeting at Conference Hall, Hotel Saramati on May 30.

While appreciating the decision of the State Government to test all returnees and their test results confirmed before sending them to their respective districts, the Committee pointed out that “however, it is facing practical difficulties since the State has only one BSL-3 LAB at Kohima and the testing of all returnees is going to take a long time as it has a limited capacity.”

“There are many returnees from other States who have completed the mandatory 14 days institutional quarantine. At this rate it will not be possible to test all the returnees who are not showing any symptoms as we are still concentrating on the Chennai returnees. If we do not release the returnees who have completed 14 days quarantine period it will not be possible to accommodate fresh returnees,” the Committee stated in a press release issued on Saturday.

Meanwhile, after discussion certain decisions were taken for early action by the State Government. It decided that all returnees who have completed 14 days of institutional quarantine and show no symptoms may be allowed to go to their respective districts without mandatory testing and those from Dimapur district be released for home quarantine and “even after completion of 14 days, any returnees showing symptoms will be retained and tested in Dimapur.”

“We do not have any objection if the Government takes a decision to retain all COVID positive returnees pertaining to Mon and Peren districts. If they are to be retained at Dimapur, the State Government may urgently identify one more COVID hospital,” it appealed.

It is also suggested that all fresh returnees be sent to their respective Districts after thorough screening and triaging of the returnees, due to paucity of resources. “Once the above suggestion is accepted, the State Government may bring back the stranded Naga citizens from other states,” it added.
