Mystery over arrest of a suspect in Arunachal MLA assassination case

Dimapur, August 23 (MExN): Three days after a man - suspected to be linked to the assassination of the late Arunachal Pradesh MLA Tirong Aboh, his son and 9 others - was arrested in Dimapur, the Dimapur police issued a press release today. 


The release identified the man as one Jaikishan Sharma (48 yrs), a resident of Khonsa, Arunachal Pradesh. He was one among three others, including an NSCN (IM) member, arrested by the Dimapur police in Dimapur on August 20. The other 3 were identified as Luckin Mashangva (43 yrs), Sangin Wangsu (40 yrs) and Wanglik Tangjang (34 yrs). The latter two are said to be residents of Deomali, Tirap, Arunachal Pradesh. 


Mashangva, the obscure release said, is a Major in the NSCN and attributed his place of residence as 4th Mile (Diphupar), Dimapur. 


It did not specify the circumstances behind the arrest of the four while only stating that Rs. 11, 45, 460 was seized from their possession and “an extortion case has been registered at Dimapur East Police Station.”


When contacted for further details, the Dimapur police said that the four were arrested at MP Road and declined to disclose other details citing “investigation was on.” The National Investigation Agency took custody of Sharma from judicial custody, it added.
