Post office Nagaland Div observes Vigilance Awareness Week 2019

Alongwith the rest of the country, the office of the Superintendent Posts, Nagaland Division observed Vigilance Awareness Week 2019 here today at Head Post Office, Kohima under the theme “Integrity- A way of life.”
The purpose of vigilance awareness week is to generate awareness in the public at large about the ill effects of corruption.


Vigilance awareness week is being celebrated every year and coincides with the birthday of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, known to be a man of high integrity.


In pursuit of the vision of the Government of India to make a new India by the year 2022, which is the 75th anniversary of our independence, the Central Vigilance Commission, as the apex integrity institution of the country, endeavors to promote integrity, transparency and accountability in public life.


Observance of Vigilance Awareness Week every year is part of the multi-pronged approach of the Commission where a key strategy is to encourage all stakeholders to collectively participate in the prevention of, and the fight against corruption and to raise public awareness regarding the existence, causes and gravity of and the threat posed by corruption.


Lalramzauva, Superintendent of Post, Nagaland Division said the Central Vigilance Commission has mandate under the Central Vigilance Commission Act, 2005 to fight corruption and to ensure integrity in public administration.


“We, the Central Government under the aegis of Central Vigilance Commission, every year, observed Vigilance Awareness Week with different themes chosen by the CVC in pursuit of the vision of Govt. of India to make a new India by the year 2022 which is the 75th anniversary of our Independence,” said Lalramzauva.


Stating that corruption is an enemy No. 1 in India, he said “It is broadly defined a dishonest and unethical activity of a person or organization undertaken in the form of dishonesty or in criminal way entrusted with a position at authority often to acquire illicit benefit or abuse of entrusted power for ones private gain.”


Stating that there are different forms of corruption, he said “Everyone is very much aware that how corruption has ruined our society, administration, politics, economic development education, environment and so on.”


He said that it is imperative that the public must be sensitized and motivated, encouraged to collectively participate in the prevention, weeding out fighting against corruption.


Kevilekho Angami, postmaster, Kohima Head Post Office administered integrity pledge on the occasion.


The gathering pledge to promote ethical business practices and foster a culture of honesty and integrity, not offer of accept bribes, commit to good corporate governance based on transparency, accountability and fairness, adhere to relevant laws, rules and compliance mechanisms in the conduct of business, adopt a code of ethics for all employees etc.
