WSH to oppose lightning bandhs in Western Sumi inhabited areas of Dimapur

DIMAPUR, JUNE 9 (MExN): Against the backdrop of the recent indefinite bandh called by Dimapur colleges on June 5 in Dimapur, the Western Sumi Hoho (WSH) said it would henceforth oppose any lightning bandh in Western Sumi inhabited areas of Dimapur district.

This resolve was made during a coordination meeting held with all its frontal organizations in Niuland on June 8, a press statement issued by WSH media cell informed on Sunday. It stated that any kind of bandh in future would have to be done so only after taking the confidence and a prior consultation with the Western Sumi Hoho without which it will not allow any “Tom, Dick or Harry organization to call for a sudden downing of shutters putting the denizens of Dimapur greatly harassed and disturbed.”

The trend of calling a bandh at every whims and fancies has caused lot of hardships and inconveniences not only to the business community but also to all the entire residents of Dimapur district, the WSH maintained.

On the recent bandh called by “some students in Dimapur,” the WSH questioned as why Dimapurians should always have to bear the brunt and suffer for any protest or agitation that takes place in Kohima, adding, “What is the logic of holding an umbrella here in Dimapur when it rains in Kohima?”

It stated that Dimapurians cannot be made a scapegoat always for any sort of standoff or impasse with the state government. Being the state’s commercial hub, such practice has put travellers, sick people and daily wage earners into immense hardship, it pointed out.

The WSH also maintained that any democratic protest ought to be done by taking one-step at a time but calling for a sudden shut down of all shops and business establishments is highly unjustified and uncalled for.

It therefore, sternly warned, “If any individual, group or organization is found indulging in such practice, they will be dealt firmly as resolved.”
