Warner Bros. is reportedly getting ready to start production on their long awaited The Suicide Squad. It looks like shooting will take place at the end of September in Atlanta and go all the way through January 2020. Gunn has been teasing his storyboards for the sequel on social media and casting is currently taking place. Many Hollywood productions have been boycotting Georgia and the Atlanta area over a controversial new abortion bill, so it would not be surprising to see Gunn's production move elsewhere.

The Suicide Squad is believed to start production on September 23rd and last until January 31st. While director James Gunn hasn't confirmed, it is believed the movie will be more of its own thing as opposed to a straight sequel to David Ayers' 2016 movie, which sounds like the right direction to go down. While Suicide Squad was a hit at the box office, it was torn apart by fans and critics upon its release, so a bit of a soft reboot would be a wise decision for the studio.

Though it has not been confirmed, it is believed Margot Robbie will once again reprise her Harley Quinn role for The Suicide Squad. The actress recently wrapped production on the upcoming Birds of Prey: (And The Fantabulous Emancipation of one Harley Quinn) movie, which is set to hit theaters early next year. Jai Courtney and Joel Kinnaman are confirmed to be coming back to play Captain Boomerang and Rick Flagg, respectively. In addition, the sequel will also feature the return of actress Viola Davis, who is coming back to play Amanda Waller.

Nanaue, aka King Shark, Ratcatcher, Polka-Dot Man, aka Mister Polka Dot, and Peacemaker, aka Christopher Smith will be the new characters appearing in The Suicide Squad. David Dastmalchian (Blade Runner 2049) is portraying Polka-Dot Man and it is believed that John Cena (Bumblebee) is in talks for the Peacemaker role. It was originally believed that Guardians of the Galaxy star Dave Bautista was going to take the Peacemaker role, but the actor had a scheduling conflict. It isn't clear who will be taking on the roles of the other new characters at this time.

With The Suicide Squad preparing to start production, it will be a while before James Gunn is able to go back and get Guardians of the Galaxy 3 off of the ground again. The director was famously fired from the sequel by Disney last summer after some old tasteless tweets were unearthed, only to be rehired earlier this year. If he hadn't have been fired, the latest Guardians project would more than likely be in the post-production phase at this time since it was scheduled to start shooting in January of this year. The Geeks Vibe Nation Twitter account was the first to announce The Suicide Squad production start date.
