Trey Morris Elevated to Head Coach of Montana State Men's Tennis

Morris takes over after leading the Cats as interim head coach for a year

BOZEMAN, Montana – Trey Morris, who led Montana State men's tennis as the program's interim coach during the 2019-20 season, was elevated to full-time head coach by MSU Director of Athletics Leon Costello on Thursday.

Morris joined the program as assistant coach in September before becoming interim head coach. The Bobcats stood 5-4 when the COVID-19 pandemic ended the 2020 season in March.

"I appreciate the job Trey did guiding the men's tennis program this season, and I'm happy to remove 'interim' from his title," Costello said. "He led the program with positive energy and the student-athletes responded to him in competition and in the classroom. I'm excited for the future of the Bobcat men's tennis program with Trey as the head coach."

Morris has brought considerable playing and coaching experience to Montana State. He worked as Tennis Director and Associate Owner at Baskin-McGill Tennis Academy in Marietta, Georgia, in 2018-19, and before that was the Assistant Tennis Pro (2016- 2017) and Head Tennis Pro ( 2017-2018). He also worked as an assistant tennis pro at Tennis Dynamics in Marietta, Georgia (January-April 2018). Morris' college coaching career began as a volunteer assistant for the Appalachian State University men's and women's tennis programs in 2017.

"I want to thank our Athletic Director Leon Costello, Senior Associate Athletics Director Thijs Goossens, and the search committee for trusting me to lead this program to future success," Morris said. "I will work tirelessly to build a championship culture and winning mentality both on and off the courts, here at MSU. In the past year I have truly fallen in love with Montana State University, this tennis program, and the beautiful community of Bozeman. I cannot wait to get back to work!"

Morris earned all-conference doubles (2015) and all-academic (2017) honors as a student-athlete at Appalachian State University (2015-17). He served as a team captain his Senior year and finished his collegiate career with a 44-27 singles record and a 42-23 doubles mark. Before his time at Appalachian State he played at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College in Tifton, Georgia, in 2014, when his squad finished third in the national junior college ranks. Following his college career Morris played professionally in Germany for the T C Rot-Weiss Bliesheim Club in the Bundesliga (2018-2019) where he went 11-1 in all competition.
