Maharashtra: Degree college teachers go on indefinite strike from September 25
Around 25,000 Degree college teachers have begun an indefinite strike from Tuesday
Degree college teachers across the state, affiliated to the Maharashtra Federation of University and College teachers' Organisations (MFUCTO), have begun an indefinite strike from Tuesday, September 25 with demands for filling vacancies and implementation of the UGC's 7th pay scale.
As per the organisation's estimate, around 25,000 teachers are striking work at degree colleges in Maharashtra, except those who have been assigned exam duties.
"The indefinite strike has begun. It will go till we reach a negotiated settlement with the government," Madhu Paranjape of Bombay University and College Teachers'Union (BUCTU) told Mirror.
A delegation of teachers' representatives will meet education minister Vinod Tawde later today to negotiate their demands.
As per the organisation's estimate, around 25,000 teachers are striking work at degree colleges in Maharashtra, except those who have been assigned exam duties.
The organisation has demanded the state to lift the freeze on recruitment for teaching posts. In July MFUCTO had written to Maharashtra Governor and Chancellor Universities CH Vidyasagar Rao that over 9,500 teaching posts are vacant in colleges.
