Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the National Museum of Indian Cinema on January 19 in Mumbai. Modi will arrive from Dadra Nagar Haveli and proceed to Peddar Road to inaugurate the museum.

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has invited Amitabh Bachchan , Akshay Kumar, AR Rahman, Salman Khan, Rakesh Mehra, David Dhawan, Rohit Shetty, Pankaj Kapoor, Waheeda Rehman, Jitendra, Raveena Tandon and Asha Parekh and have confirmed their attendance, said a senior Films Division officer.


The National Museum of Indian Cinema will not only provide a store house of information to laymen but it will also help film makers, film students, enthusiasts and critics to know and evaluate the development of cinema as a medium of artistic expression, not only in the country, but also in all parts of the world.

Artefacts, equipments like cameras, editing and recording machines, projectors, costumes, photographs and other material are proposed to be kept in the museum. Properties, dresses, sets, tapes, vintage equipment, posters, copies of important films, prints, promotional leaflets, developing equipment books, biographies, sound tracks, trailers, transparencies, cinema magazines and statistics covering film distribution will be displayed in a systematic arrangement, depicting the history in a chronological manner. They will be procured through donations and also by purchase. There will also be a Museum shop, which will sell copies and photographs of vintage items, books and booklets based on the work of noted film makers, and mementoes.


The National Museum of Indian Cinema will cater to the needs of contemporary people for acquainting themselves with hanges in the field of film production and also enlist their active support in appreciating the technological changes in the present media scenario.
