Mumbai hammered Pondicherry by an innings and 231 runs with a day to spare in their Under-23 CK Nayudu Trophy quarterfinal at the Wankhede Stadium yesterday.

They now await the winner of the ongoing fourth quarterfinal in Nagpur between Vidarbha and Gujarat.

Resuming their first innings on 449/5 on day three, Mumbai were dismissed for 581, a massive lead of 372. The in-form Sarfaraz Khan fell short of a century, adding 30 to his overnight 60 to fall for 90.

However, off-spinner Tanush Kotian (52) and pacer Minad Manjrekar (41) put on 78 for the eighth wicket.

Thereafter, seamers Arjun Tendulkar and Manjrekar ripped through the hapless Pondicherry line-up. Tendulkar fell in his followthrough after claiming his third wicket in his eighth over and had to leave the field.

Left-arm spinner Shreyas Gurav then mopped up the tail as the visitors were dismissed for just 141 in the 33rd over. Manjrekar was the wrecker-in-chief, taking nine wickets in the match.

Pondicherry U23 209 & 141 (M Manjrekar 4/38, A Tendulkar 3/24, S Gurav 3/51) lost to Mumbai U23 581 (Y Jaiswal 185, SKhan 90, H Tamore 86, A Khan 64, T Kotian 52) by an innings and 231 runs
