A North Las Vegas man was killed on Monday, April 15, in a single vehicle crash on Interstate 15 at mile marker 97 on the Mormon Mesa, about five miles north of the Logandale/Overton exit.
Preliminary investigation by the Nevada Highway Patrol revealed that at approximately 6:25 am a white 2009 Nissan Altima was travelling northbound on I-15, in the right travel lane just north of mile marker 97. For unknown reasons the driver steered to the right causing the vehicle to begin to rotate. The vehicle went off the roadway to the right and entered the desert terrain where it began to roll over.
The unrestrained male passenger; later identified by NHP as Jose Lobato-Carena, 45, of North Las Vegas; was ejected from the vehicle. He succumbed to injuries sustained in the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The female driver, identifed as 47 year old Aracela Saldana was transported to UMC-Trauma center where she was treated for minor injuries.
Saldana was later arrested on suspicion of Driving under the Influence Resulting in Death, Failed to Maintain Lane and Driving without a Valid License.
As of late last week she was being held in the Clark County Detention Center.
