Residents from Moapa, Logandale and Overton are invited to join officials from the Southern Nevada Water Authority (SNWA) for an afternoon of entertaining activities at the Warm Springs Natural Area on Saturday, April 27 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The 1,220-acre Natural area is located on Warm Springs Road just across the street from the Moapa Valley National Wildlife Refuge. The springs on the property, and in the surrounding area, form the headwaters of the Muddy River. Water resources from the

Warm Springs area are the primary drinking water source for Moapa Valley. The area is also home to 28 endangered, threatened, and sensitive fish, bird, and reptile species, some of which are found nowhere else in the world.

The free event is an opportunity for residents to enjoy the natural beauty of the Warm Springs Natural Area. The area offers a rural oasis of bubbling springs, calming streams, and lush wetlands. Visitors can experience the property’s desert beauty with a stroll along the 2/3-mile walking trail to learn about the human and natural history of the area through interpretive displays surrounded by panoramic views of the natural area and the Mojave Desert.

Guests at the open house can participate in guided tours of the area or do some target shooting in a special archery area. Younger kids can also enjoy a free face painting booth and go out on scavenger hunts in the area. There will be much more family-friendly, outdoor fun available that day.

Space to the event will be limited. Families and individuals wishing to attend can RSVP by visiting https://warmspringsnv.org/.

Volunteers opportunities at the Natural Area are also available. Volunteers provide visitors with information about the wildlife, history, and geography of the site. The site volunteers also help maintain the site, engage with visitors and assist with opening and closing the facility.

“While the Warm Springs Natural Area already enjoys the dedicated support of many citizen volunteers from the Moapa Valley community, we are pleased to provide even more opportunities throughout the year for local residents to become involved in the area’s day-to-day operations as well as through interactions with our visitors,” said SNWA Stewardship and Sustainability Division Manager Keiba Crear.

Those interested in volunteering at the area should contact Warm Springs Maintenance Coordinator Robert Shakespear at (702) 274-7991 or via email at robert.shakespear@snwa.com.
