With the professionally produced video entitled, “Meet Kim and Walter,” Moapa Valley Telephone (MVT) rolled out its new “Meet Moapa Valley” series last month.
“We wanted to do something different and low-key to give back to the community,” MVT President Brad Lyon said.

The first video highlights the contributions of two of the Moapa Valley’s finest music teachers. There is footage and interviews of Moapa Valley High School band and orchestra teacher Kim Delgadillo and Mack Lyon Middle School orchestra teacher Walter White.

In the video White talks about the joy of teaching local kids. “I love the kids and just love being around them,” he said. “I love getting them started with basically no skills on an instrument and then, three years later, they have this joy of playing music.”

Delgadillo emphasized the goodness of the Moapa Valley community: it’s kids and parents. “I love this community,” she said. “The people are generous, hard-working and honorable people. The pride and care they show toward the community and each other; you just don’t find that anywhere else.”

Lyon said that he had expected to run into roadblocks in getting permissions for creating the videos about local teachers. But when the principals of the two local schools were approached about it, they were all too willing to help, he said.

“Both Mr. Paul at the middle school and Mr. Mortensen at the high school made it a piece of cake,” Lyon said. “They were easy to work with, and I appreciated how easy both schools made it for us.”

There are plans for MVT to produce three or four videos a year highlighting businesses and members of the community. Charlene Udall, founder and owner of The Front Porch; Laura and Monte Bledsoe, owners of Quail Hollow Farm CSA; and Brian Rebman, owner of Moapa Valley Mortuary will each be featured.

“We have had good feedback so far,” Lyon said. “So we plan to go at least one more year.”

Go to meetmoapavalley.com to watch the videos. Lyon encourages community members to email him at brad@mvtel.com with comments or suggestions.
“We would love to hear from community members,” Lyon said. “We’re proud to share their stories.”
