SAR Assists Family Stuck in McCullough Peaks

Written by on July 11, 2019

Park County Search and Rescue volunteers came to the assistance of a Florida family on Monday after their side-by-side vehicle became stuck in a creek drainage near the Bighorn County line.

Sheriff’s Department officials say Jason Vickers, his wife Miranda, and their two children were touring the Whistle Creek area when they attempted to traverse a creek drainage and became stuck in deep mud.

The initial call came into the Park County Sheriff’s 911 Communications Center at 6:05 p.m. after a signal was received from a Personal Location Beacon, indicating coordinates in the McCullough Peaks area near Whistle Creek.

At 7:15 p.m., searchers in an aircraft located the Vickers family and guided rescuers to them. The family was cold and tired but otherwise unhurt. Representatives of the ATV rental company took them back to Cody, and made preparations to remove the side-by-side from the creek bed.
