WASHINGTON (SBG) - The pilot of a helicopter that crashed on the roof of a Manhattan skyscraper has died.
According to preliminary reports, no one in the building was hurt but some were evacuated.
The New York City Fire Department says the crash happened on Seventh Avenue, not far from both Rockefeller Center and Times Square.
The crash caused a fire on the rooftop and the FDNY contained it.
It is not known what type of helicopter was involved, and it does not appear anyone else was onboard.
New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo spoke to reporters at the scene of the incident with preliminary information that the helicopter pilot was forced to make an emergency landing. "We don't know what caused the helicopter to land on the top of the building," he said.
The governor said the incident does not appear to be terrorism-related. "If you're a New Yorker you have a level of PTSD from 9/11," Cuomo said. "So as soon as you hear an aircraft hit a building, I think my mind goes to where every New Yorker's mind goes. But there's no indication that that is the case."
