A police officer in Los Angeles is okay after being shot at point blank range.

The shooting happened at a housing complex in Los Angeles last month. Police just shared the video with the public after a preliminary investigation.

The incident began when police tried to pull over a car for running a stop sign. According to police, the driver stopped the car and ran. Officers told dispatch they were in pursuit of a man with a gun.

As the officers ran after the driver through the public housing complex, police said a man walked toward the running officers. When one of the officers came within feet of the man, police said the man pulled a gun from his waistband and fired at the officer. The officer, struck in the leg, returned fire.

Police said Fire Rescue paramedics took the suspect to the hospital and officers took the wounded officer to a hospital.

Due to the growing crowd at the scene, police said investigators made the decision to move the suspect's gun from the ground to a patrol car. Detectives from the Force Investigation Division later took custody of the weapon.

The Los Angeles District Attorney's Office charged Curley Duff, 39, with one count of attempted murder of a police officer. Police said he has a criminal history but no prior encounters with the LAPD's Mental Evaluation Unit.
