ALCONA COUNTY, Mich., (WPBN/WGTU) -- A Michigan State Police sergeant is being praised for his quick action after saving a toddler from a busy roadway.

According to MSP, Det. Sgt. Joseph Richards noticed a 2-year-old girl who had wandered across the road in Alcona County on Friday.

Dashcam video from Richards' patrol vehicle shows him approaching the girl and as he approaches her, she turns away and begins to re-enter the roadway.

Richards exited his vehicle and quickly grabbed the girl just as a passing dump truck had locked its brakes in an attempt to avoid the child.

MSP said the mother of the child appeared shortly after the incident and advised she had lost track of her daughter for just second prior to the incident.

Luckily, the child was unharmed in the incident and returned to her mother.
