Four new companies bring more than 600 jobs to northern Nevada


Four companies will move operations to the Northern Nevada region, creating more than 600 jobs, according to the Economic Development Authority of Western Nevada.

The Economic Development Authority of Western Nevada announced four new companies to Northern Nevada on Wednesday. The companies will create more than 600 jobs for the region.

Two of the companies are part of the cosmetic industry while the other two are part of the tech sector:

theBalm — A cosmetic company that will look to fill 200 positions for its new distribution center in Reno. It's moving its headquarters from California to Northern Nevada.

"We're expanding and bringing a lot of manufacturing into our business," says CEO Heather Lourie. "Reno is a great environment to do that."

Mary Kay — A new distribution center will provide 50 jobs to the region. The cosmetic company will have 72,000 square feet of facility to work with and looks to be operation in September.

Discover Podium — The career advancement company will hire up to 300 employees over the next five years at an average wage of $80,000.

"Had we not been in Reno I don't' know if we could have survived COVID," says CEO and founder Jacob Warwick. "It was definitely difficult and we're very fortunate to not have made any layoffs during this time."

Unstoppable Domains — The startup has launched domain names on block chain technology. The Bay Area company moves to Reno looking to hire up to 70 people.

Lieutenant Governor was in attendance for the press conference and praised the companies hiring locals for work.

"You talk to these companies and all of them say they're going to grow organically here," says Marshall. "Meaning hiring our people, our kids from UNR and TMCC, our workers who have been here. They know they can rely on us."
