On Thursday night, over 10,000 people marched through downtown Nashville in a peaceful Black Lives Matter protest, organized by a group of five teenage girls from Franklin. As protests continue around the country to call attention to police brutality and systemic racial injustice, many local diners have been searching for black-owned businesses and restaurants to support this week, either by donating funds or by buying dinner.

Numerous lists of Nashville area black-owned restaurants have been circulating across social media this week. Nashville pastry chef Ali Humbrecht created this constantly-updated, user-generated comprehensive Google spreadsheet of black-owned businesses, including restaurants, bakeries, retail, and other businesses. The Nashville Scene writers curated a list of black-owned businesses for takeout amid the COVID-19 crisis. Nashville Black Chamber of Commerce and Dino’s, among others, created easily shareable Instagram posts, tagging businesses to support.

This weekend, Belle Meade CBD cafe Anzie Blue is hosting a trio of pop-ups featuring female-run, black-owned food and alcohol-related businesses. On Saturday, The Cupcake Collection and Perfectly Cordial will be on site selling cupcakes and cocktails. The first 100 guests will receive a free cupcake. On Sunday, Saturated will service Ice Cream cookie bowls and Perfectly Cordial cocktails. In other weekend events, Dickerson Pike’s Shugga Hi Cafe is hosting another fish fry with live DJ on Saturday, June 6 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Strategic Hospitality’s Max Goldberg posted the following on his personal Instagram account today, alongside a list of black-owned restaurants — “As we take this time to reflect, to listen, and to learn, we want to show support to those in our restaurant community. Once a week, we’ll be purchasing and providing staff meal from black-owned restaurants throughout Nashville and we encourage you to support alongside us.”
