Budget airline IndiGo on Friday announced that it is soon going to add direct flights from Guwahati to Aizawl and Varanasi.

Within the next two months, IndiGo will start daily flights on six new routes which come under the Centre’s UDAN scheme.

In the northeast, IndiGo plans to introduce direct flights to and from Aizawl-Agartala.

The budget airlines will start daily flights on Aizawl-Guwahati and Varanasi-Guwahati sectors by February-end.

The Ude Desh ka Aam Naagrik (UDAN) is a regional airport development and Regional Connectivity Scheme (RCS) of Centre which aims to let the common citizen of the country fly.

In fact, UDAN is aimed at making air travel affordable and widespread, to boost inclusive national economic development, job growth and air transport infrastructure development of all regions and states of India.

Under the UDAN scheme, financial incentives in terms of concessions from the Centre, state governments and airport operators are extended to selected airlines to encourage operations from smaller airports, and keep airfares affordable.
