Aizawl Municipal Corporation organized a Plastic Free Rally at two locations in Aizawl on Tuesday.

The rallies held at Chanmari and Sikulpuikawn aimed at students to make them more aware about the detrimental effects of plastic.

The rallies were part of AMC’s on-going drive to educate people about the harmful effects of single use plastic and reduce plastic usage.

The rally participants congregated at Lammual where chief secretary Lalnunmawia Chuaungo and AMC mayor P C Lalhmingthanga addressed the students and spoke about the harm plastic has on health and the environment.

Chief secretary Lalnunmawia Chuaungo praised the efforts of AMC towards banning plastic bags less than 50 microns thick  and in their awareness drives in reducing plastic usage.

He highlighted the harmful effects of plastic on health and the damage it does to the environment.

He called upon students to make a pledge to reduce plastic usage and teach others to so the same and be active volunteers of plastic free Aizawl.

AMC mayor P C Lalhmingthanga appealed to people to do away with single use plastic and work towards making Aizawl plastic free, which he said is one of the prime parameters of a smart city.

Students from 14 schools across Aizawl took part in the rally and pledged to reduce plastic usage.
