Middlesex County Democrats have picked David Lande and Malini Guha as their candidates for State Assembly in the 12th district against incumbents Rob Clifton (R-Matawan) and Ronald Dancer (R-Plumsted).
Lande, a retired Army JAG officer and workers compensation attorney, is making his second bid for the legislature. He challenged State Sen. Samuel Thompson (R-Old Bridge) in 2017 and lost by 8,125 votes, 57%-41%,
Guha is a member of the Matawan Environmental Commission.
They defeated Gene Davis, a former Linden councilman who ran against Clifton and Dancer two years ago and lost by 8,169 votes.
Democrats in Burlington, Monmouth and Ocean counties have not get picked their candidates.
While the district has just 975 more Democrats than Republicans, he 12th is viewed as solidly Republican. Donald Trump carried it by 17,793 votes (59%), but Mitt Romney’s 2012 margin was just 5,602 (53%).
