District of Columbia Mayor Announces 2020 Budget, Sales Tax Changes, Income Tax Credit

The District of Columbia Mayor Oct. 1 announced her fiscal year 2020 Fair Shot budget, which included investments in affordable housing, families and seniors, jobs, education, transportation, and infrastructure. The Mayor provided that: 1) starting Oct. 1, one year after the sales and use tax on menstrual hygiene products was eliminated, the sales tax on diapers sold will also be eliminated; 2) the budget included $1.3 million to make the “Keeping Childcare Affordable” income tax credit permanent for households with taxable income under $150,000; and 3) the budget also included $2 million to increase funding for Safe at Home and ...
