Keeping Exeter looking good

Our workers continue to do everything they can to keep Exeter clean and safe, ready for when people return to the city centre.

Cleansing teams are taking full advantage of the quiet city centre streets to give everything a good clean during the Coronavirus outbreak.

The teams have been pressure washing all street furniture and paving slabs in city centre streets as well as washing down bins and scrubbing pavements.

Multi-storey car parks in the city centre have received the same treatment, receiving a deep clean and being spruced up for when they reopen.

As well as making everywhere look fresh and inviting, the high temperature of water from the pressure washers is hot enough – up to 150 degrees - to more than kill any viruses on hard surfaces.

Across the city, a number of roads – including residential streets - have been tidied up and de-weeded, using a weed-ripping machine. This approach complements the Council’s programme of chemical weed control.

Cllr David Harvey, Lead Councillor for Environment and City Management, said the Council was committed to keeping the city looking good and remaining safe during COVID-19 and for the future days ahead.

“We are doing everything possible during these difficult times, but we do have limited budgets and always welcome residents helping out by pulling out weeds in front of their own homes to keep the city looking good,” he added.
