Jeremy Corbyn announces he will resign as Labour leader

The votes have been counted and the results are in - with the Conservatives winning their biggest majority since Margaret Thatcher in 1987.

Boris Johnson's 365 seats mean he has secured an overall Commons majority of 80, winning the election and defeating Jeremy Corbyn's Labour Party.

Labour did worse by a hair's breadth than Michael Foot's infamous "longest suicide note in history" manifesto in 1983 - winning just 203 seats, the party's worst performance since 1935.

Lib Dem leader Jo Swinson lost her East Dunbartonshire seat and Jeremy Corbyn announced he would step down as Labour leader before the next election.
