'We are in for a tough time'

Campaigners chant in Rolls-Royce protest over Derby job cuts

A Rolls-Royce worker from Derby said he is deeply worried about his family's future after joining a protest over the company's decision to cut thousands of jobs.

More than a dozen people made their voices heard in a short protest which was held at 11am outside the Council House today.

The protest called for Rolls-Royce bosses to reconsider their decision to cut 9,000 jobs in response to the impact of the coronavirus pandemic and 'save Derby jobs'.

Earlier this week it was announced 1,500 positions will be cut from the company's operations in Derby and Nottingham.

One of the workers whose job is at risk has worked as a machinist at Rolls-Royce for 15 years.

He told Derbyshire Live he was worried for his future after being placed on furlough.

The Sinfin plant worker said: "We're all apprehensive and been anxious over the last couple of months, especially those on furlough.
