A primary school has delayed reopening after a worker tested positive for coronavirus with two others going into self-isolation.

The member of staff had been working at Ward Jackson Primary School in Hartlepool, Teeside Live reported.

They had not been in contact with pupils for three weeks, and had been socially distancing in the school.

In a letter to parents, Ward Jackson headteacher David Akers said: "We wanted to reassure you about the additional steps we are now taking to make sure our community remains safe.

"The member of staff has only been in once in the last 3 weeks, has not had any direct contact with the children and observed social distancing whilst in school.

"The school remains open, and we have cleaned and disinfected surfaces and objects across the school thoroughly to help prevent any viruses spreading; as we are instructed to do by Public Health England, this includes a removal and replacing of oxygen in rooms that have been used.

"We have also spoken to all parents whose children have been attending the school to inform them of the current situation."
