Army Major accused of raping female Captain claims he’s the victim and says ‘she forced him into sex’
A MAJOR accused of raping a fellow officer claims he's the victim as she she forced him into sex, a court heard today.
Gregor Beaton, 33, allegedly attacked the captain after a boozy Burns night dinner.
But when told by police his DNA had been found on the woman, he claimed she had forced him into sex while he was drunk.
Beaton, who served in Helmand Province in Afghanistan, told a court martial today: "She has assaulted me.
"That’s my understanding. I did not have sex with her.”
The woman was allegedly horrified when she woke up naked next to Beaton with "absolutely no memory" of what had happened.
ALLEGED ATTACK
She said she was "flirting" with another soldier at the bash so assumed it was him in the bed next to her.
When she saw it was Beaton, who she barely knew, she panicked, it was said.
But the officer from the 14th Royal Artillery regiment told the court he was chatting to the woman when she walked into his room drunk.
He said he led her back to her room and they talked before he fell asleep in her armchair.
When she quizzed him the next day, he allegedly said he was "99 per cent sure" they didn't have sex before later offering to take her to get a morning after pill.
'TRUTH WILL OUT'
Giving evidence today, he said: "I offered help because perhaps she would be less embarrassed to go with someone she didn’t know.
“The truth will out. I was not trying to cover my tracks and be dishonest.
"It is not who I am.
"I couldn’t dispute the scientific and forensic evidence, it was beyond contestation… I just became an absolute wreck as soon as I was told sexual activity had taken place."
Beaton denied his account was "pure fiction" when questioned by prosecutor William Peters.
He told the court: "I have not made up anything I have said.
"I could say what I thought happened but that would be hearsay and is not permissible in this courtroom."
The court martial heard yesterday how the woman claimed she had a "weird flashback of somebody" in the days after the alleged attack.
She said: "[They were] dragging my hips from behind. Dragging me up the bed by my hips…”
The captain, who had been drinking red wine, Jägermeister, Prosecco and whiskey, allegedly confronted Beaton, who told her "nothing happened".
But when he offered to accompany her to get the morning after pill, the woman said she decided to have the rape examination done, it was said.
