Terrifying video shows a driver spin out of control and crash into an HGV moments after overtaking another lorry.

The BMW driver ignores hazard markings to race past the lorry and then cut in front before accelerating away.

But the motorist comes unstuck as he loses control on a bend and crashes side-on into an HGV coming the other way.

Fortunately, the HGV driver was able to reduce his speed before impact and the motorist is thought to have escaped uninjured.

But his driving earned him a £400 fine and five points on his licence at Poole Magistrates Court, Dorset, police revealed on Sunday.

Dorset Traffic Police said the incident happened last summer in Gravel Hill, Poole, but only recently came to court.

Police posted the clip to social media, warning: "It's real life. Not a video game. We only get one go at it. Don't risk throwing it away."

A photograph taken at the scene shows the serious damage caused to the BMW. The car's entire left side has been destroyed upon impact.

The driver and passenger who were in the truck the car hit have spoken out about their ordeal.

HGV driver Frances Ray-Williams, 55, from Birmingham, believes the driver got off 'scot free' and she is still waiting for an apology.

She said: "He should have lost his license. He's a lucky man because I could see what was happening so I stopped my vehicle.

"I think he got away scot free, he showed no remorse at the time, he never even said sorry, and I'm still waiting on an apology."

Frances said the crash has had a profound impact on her life.

She added: "My marriage has broken down because of it, I have suffered from a lot of stress from the crash. He knows the trauma he's caused me."

Her husband, Stephen Ray-Williams, said: "If we hadn't been in that truck at that time, the two young girls in the car behind us would have been killed. We had stopped, because I knew he was going to hit us."
