SuperShuttle to end service to Phoenix airports in 3 weeks

PHOENIX – Once a leader in the shared-ride business, Scottsdale-based SuperShuttle will be locking up the vans and closing shop at Phoenix airports at the end of the year.
The company could be going out of business completely, according to a report.
ABC15 reported the van service notified Phoenix Sky Harbor and Phoenix-Mesa Gateway airports Thursday it was ending operations there Dec. 31.
“The company says that all reservations will be honored up to 12/31/2019,” the service said in an email to the TV station.

The Los Angeles Times reported Thursday that not only was the service leaving the city’s international airport, but that two reservations agents and a company executive confirmed the companywide shutdown.
The executive was not authorized to speak publicly, the paper said.
Besides the easily recognizable blue vans, the company also runs ExecuCar.
In recent weeks, SuperShuttle has announced discontinuation of service to airports in Baltimore, Maryland; Minneapolis, Minnesota; and Sacramento, California.
The service made a name for itself starting in LA in 1983 by offering airport rides with multiple stops. That kept prices for customers lower than solo cab rides.
Service had expanded from American cities to Canada, Europe, Latin America and Asia.
As of Friday morning, a page at the company website still advertised for drivers.
