Tesco, Asda, Sainsbury's, Aldi, Lidl and Morrisons bring in new policies to help cut queues

As the UK begins to find its way out of lockdown, how are supermarkets planning to tackle long queues in bad weather?

Coronavirus: Latest rules and opening hours at UK supermarkets

It's going to be a washout weekend around the UK meaning the prospect of having to stand in queues outside of supermarkets is not a pleasant one.

While we have to do what we can to maintain social distancing and make supermarkets as safe as possible, several of the leading UK chains have brought in new measures to help cut the queues and avoid customers having to queue in the grim weather.

Tesco is one of these supermarkets, and the announcement that shoppers will be able to queue in the dry, safe, warmth of their car has gone down well with many shoppers.

We've broken down all the latest changes to queueing systems for the major UK supermarkets including Tesco, Asda, Sainsbury's, Aldi, Lidl and Morrisons.

When it comes to queueing, Tesco has thought out every detail - including the weather.

If it's raining or particularly bad weather then Tesco shoppers could be asked to wait in their cars instead to avoid having to stand in long queues.

On their website, the supermarket giant says: "If it's raining or particularly cold, we may ask you to stay in your car to queue - we'll let you know when you can come in."
