Washington state added over 500 new COVID-19 cases Wednesday and another eight people died from the deadly virus, according to new numbers released from health officials.
The Washington Department of Health reported 551 new COVID-19 cases, 35 more hospitalizations and eight new deaths Wednesday.
Health officials said there have been 64,702 total COVID-19 cases, 6,137 hospitalizations and 1,724 deaths in Washington since the pandemic began.
In response to COVID-19, the Seattle Public Schools board unanimously voted Wednesday to start school online this fall for the start of the 2020-21 school year.
The state's largest school district announced the plan for remote learning following a board meeting.
Last month, the Seattle Public School Superintendent Denise Juneau recommended a remote learning model beginning with fall classes of the 2020-21 school year and to continue with remote learning until the risk of significant COVID-19 transmission has decreased.
