Jay-Z’s Roc Nation to open Long Island University-affiliated school in Brooklyn

Jay-Z’s Roc Nation will open the Roc Nation School of Music, Sports & Entertainment.

It’ll be a part of Long Island University’s Brooklyn campus. Roc Nation said it would provide 25 percent of its students with scholarships so that they graduate with no student debt. It plans to offer education about performing arts and the business side of entertainment and sports.

Jay-Z’s work has been the stuff of academia in its own right: Georgetown University once offered a class called “Sociology of Hip-Hop: Urban Theodicy of Jay-Z,” and his hit “99 Problems” received a line-by-line analysis in the Saint Louis University Law Journal focusing on “the Fourth Amendment issues Verse 2 raises.”
