The family of Detective Corporal Tim Anderson released a statement regarding his current condition as Anderson is suffering life-threatening complications from the flu that has turned into a rare form of pneumonia.

Tim Anderson was admitted into a hospital in Mobile early last week with flu-like symptoms where his condition soon deteriorated. He was later transferred to Baptist Hospital in Pensacola, Florida where he is receiving around the clock care. Initial medical reports gave him a 5 percent chance of survival.

“Baptist Hospital’s entire staff have been phenomenal. Dr. Enrique Diaz, his pulmonologist, keeps constant watch on his progress. He is truly caring for him as if he were his own son with an extremely high level of expertise. Jon Neyman, ECMO Program Lead and Perfusionist, has volunteered to stay on call and work every day until Tim is off the machine. Dan Davis, ECMO specialist, has also played a crucial role in Tim’s care,” said Kelly Anderson, wife of Tim Anderson a public statement.

Kelly Anderson stated that her husband has been diagnosed with H1N1 combined with Group C Streptococci pneumonia, a very rare condition. This has resulted in a very severe form of acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), which is a rapidly progressive disease occurring in critically ill patients. It’s been reported that his condition is progressing slowly and no noticeable changes may be seen for several days.

In the statement, Kelly Anderson stated that her husband did not receive a flu shot and advised for all individuals who haven’t yet to get the vaccination immediately. According to the Center of Disease Control and Prevention, there were at least 3.7 million flu illnesses, 32,000 hospitalizations and 1,800 deaths from the flu in 2019.

The family of Anderson set up a GoFundMe account to help cover expenses for travel, lodging, meals and medical expenses for Anderson and his family Saturday. It has currently raised over $8,700.
