A bomb squad has been sent to a beach in Norfolk after an unexploded device was found in the car park.

Officers were called to Horsey Gap after the device was discovered just before 9am on Tuesday.

The beach’s car park has been cordoned off as a precaution, Norfolk Police said.

Explosive disposal specialists “have been contacted and will be attending the scene to assess the item,” a spokesperson added.

The force asked the public to avoid the area “while the device is safely contained and assessed”.

Horsey Gap, a secluded beach 20 miles northeast of Norwich, is a popular spot for watching seals, which breed on the shore each winter.

In 2018, an unexploded bomb was found at a beach in nearby Winterton-on-Sea. Navy divers detonated the device, believed to have been from World War Two, in a controlled explosion.
