Delhi needs additional beds and land for burial

In a letter written to the magistrates on Monday, the DDMA has asked them to identify on "top priority" indoor air conditioned rooms, preferably large multi purpose halls, banquet halls, indoor stadiums, for putting up extra beds for Covid-19 patients.

As the number of cases and deaths due to Covid-19 continue to rise in Delhi, the Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) has asked all district magistrates of Delhi to identify places for creating additional capacity for patient "beds" as well as additional land for "cremation and burial grounds".
The DDMA has also asked to find locations for cremations, burials grounds away from the residential areas.
“As you are aware that in view of increasing number of Covid-19 patients in Delhi it is imperative to plan in advance for enhancing the capacity of patients beds and also to identify additional cremation and burial grounds. The requisite information may kindly be provided on top most priority by June 3,” said the letter.
The number of cases in Delhi continue to rise with the city recording 990 fresh cases in day, totaling at 20,834 and with 12 casualties taking death toll to 523.
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal today said that that though the “coronavirus cases are rising rapidly in the city, it is a cause of concern not panic.” He said that capital’s health infrastructure was adequate to deal with the pandemic.”
The Delhi government on Monday also issued guidelines for ''Unlock 1.0'', maintaining status quo for restaurants, while permitting them to operate kitchens for home delivery and takeaway of food items. It decided that DTC with not more than 20 passengers at a time.
According to an order by Delhi Chief Secretary Vijay Dev, the DDMA extended the lockdown period in the containment zones in the national capital up to June 30, while allowing some relaxations across the city outside containment zones.
As Chairperson, State Executive Committee, Dev, said all private as well as government offices will be permitted to function in full strength.
"However, for private offices, as far as possible, the practice of work from home should be followed".
For shops and markets, the order said all markets and market complexes will remain open.
"Social distancing (2 Gaz ki doori) will be maintained in all cases. If social distancing is not maintained by any shop, then the said shop shall be liable to be closed in view of public health hazard involved in containing the spread of Covid-19 pandemic and the shopkeeper shall also be liable for prosecution under the relevant laws," the order said.
"Construction activities shall be permitted wherever the workers are available on site or could be transported to the site from within Delhi."
